Wolfgang Knaller

Wolfgang Pops ( born October 9, 1961 in Waiern in Feldkirchen ) is a retired Austrian football player and current goalkeeping coach.

Career

Wolfgang Pops began his career as his five brothers as a teenager at SV Feldkirchen in Carinthia. There he played in junior and two years in the first team (Carinthian League / Regional ). His next club was SV Spittal / Drau. With the SV Spittal Pops champion in the 2nd Bundesliga (1983) and rose to the First Bundesliga. Overall, he played five years with the SV Spittal in the Bundesliga. In the 1987 season, he joined the club of his brother Walter Pops, at that FC Admira Wacker in which he stood until the summer of 1996 at the gate. During this time, Admira Wacker qualified for the European Cup seven times, where you met, among others on opponents such as AC Bologna, Juventus, RSC Anderlecht, Ferencvaros, Royal Antwerp FC Luzern, AS Cannes and so on. With Admira Wacker Pops reached three times the OFB Cup final and once was Supercup winner.

In the season 1996/97 Pops moved to Austria Vienna, for whom he played six years. During this time the club was in a difficult financial situation, which also had consequences for sports. Alone in these six years Austria had 13 different coaches. Despite these difficulties, the club qualified at this time for the European Cup twice and was three times Hallencupsieger.

In the 2002 season, Pops made ​​his comeback in the southern city when nunmehrigen VfB Admira Wacker Mödling, in which he was involved in the league and his 500th top-flight denied. After further two seasons at Admira Wacker he moved in the 2004/05 season in the 2nd Bundesliga LASK Linz. With the season 2006/ 07 he moved to the Lower Austrian regional league team FC Waidhofen / Ybbs and a season later ( 2007/ 08) he was still playing with his son Stefan together at Regionaligaverein ASK Baumgarten in a team. After a year's break Pops changed in the summer of 2009 as a field player of the Lower Austrian club SK Breitenfort in 1st class East.

Overall, Wolfgang Pops graduated 705 league games in Austria (519 First Bundesliga 186 Second Bundesliga), 32 European Cup games, 48 OFB - Cupspiele (three times in the FA Cup final ), once Supercup winner, three times Hallencupsieger, once masters.

Pops was convened 26 times in the Austrian national team. He made his debut on 16 October 1991 during the international match in Belfast (EM qualification against Northern Ireland). He was also in the World Cup squad of the national team at the 1998 World Cup in France.

Since the 2010 season, Pops is goalkeeping coach at the First Vienna FC 1894 and the 1st Simmering SC. His son Marco Pops is also professional football players.
