Wolfgang Niersbach

Wolfgang Niersbach ( born November 30, 1950 in Rommerskirchen - Nettesheim ) is a German journalist and sports official. Since 2 March 2012, he is DFB president; he took over the office of Theo Zwanziger.

Career

As editor of the news agency Sport - Informations-Dienst ( sid ) Niersbach worked in the fields of football and hockey 15 years at numerous World and European Championships and Olympic Games. Alongside he As senior editor for eleven years, the stadium of Fortuna Dusseldorf Fortuna newspaper date and four years, the stadium newspaper Düsseldorf EC.

As press officer of the European Football Championship 1988 in Germany Niersbach gained his first experience in the organization of media work, which he transposed it in the connection as press secretary and media director of the German Football Association. After a DFB board meeting on December 7, 2011 in Frankfurt am Main, it was announced that Niersbach ready stand for election as the new DFB president. The previous president Theo Zwanziger ended his term of office in March 2012. On 2 March 2012 Niersbach was unanimously elected as the new DFB president. His successor as General Secretary was Helmut Sandrock.
