Wong Kar-Wai

Wong Kar- Wai (Chinese王家卫/王家卫, Pinyin Wáng Jia Wei, Cantonese Wohng Gà Waih, born July 17, 1958 in Shanghai) is a screenwriter, film producer and film director from Hong Kong. The writer-director is known for a special, exquisite aesthetics image, light and rhythm that had on Asian and other contemporary filmmakers big impact.

Life

Wong Kar- Wai was born in Shanghai. The family moved to Hong Kong when he was five years old. He studied until 1980 at the Hong Kong Polytechnic College graphic design. He then worked for two years as a production assistant in television. Between 1982 and 1987 he wrote as a screenplay writer for over ten scripts of various genres, from romantic comedy to action drama.
