World Football League

The World Football League ( WFL ) was an American football professional league to compete with the National Football League ( NFL) in 1974 and 1975. Despite the name, the teams were located only in the United States, one in Hawaii. Most cities were selected in which the NFL was not present. To direct competition of NFL and college football, which fought out their games at the time almost exclusively on weekends to dodge, was played on weekdays.

The NFL, which has since the 1920s survived several competing leagues and partly accepted their teams had a turn Intercontinental Football League planned in Europe, which never took up the game mode. The idea was implemented, but as the World League of American Football / NFL Europe from 1991.
