World Junior A Challenge

The World Junior A Challenge is an organized regularly since 2006 in Canada Hockey Tournament for Under-20 national teams. The competition is organized by the Canadian Hockey Association Hockey Canada, the Canadian Junior Hockey League ( CJHL ) and the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF. It is held annually in November, after the model of the Ice Hockey World Championship U20 juniors but six teams.

History

The competition was launched at the initiative of the Canadian Junior Hockey League by the Canadian Hockey Association Hockey Canada in the year 2006. The idea implied that players from the lower leagues of the Canadian Hockey League in international matches were used and thus recommended for the Scouts of the universities in the U.S. College Association National Collegiate Athletic Association or the National Hockey League.

In the first two sweeps in 2006 and 2007 respectively set by the team from Canada West to East Canada before the United States between 2008 and 2010 won three times in a row. They had participated for the first time in 2007. In 2011, Canada West was successful again.

Participant

Canada is the largest contingent with two participants. The teams sit down together from the regional leagues in the country:

  • Canada Canada West (British Columbia Hockey League, Alberta Junior Hockey League, Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League, Manitoba Junior Hockey League and Superior International Junior Hockey League)
  • Canada Canada East (Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League, Ontario Junior Hockey League, Central Canada Hockey League, Quebec Junior AAA Hockey League and Maritime Junior Hockey League)
