World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association

The World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (short: WPBSA ) is the world governing body for professional players in the billiards variants Snooker and English Billiards.

Founded in 1968, the Association, at that time still under the name Professional Billiard Players Association. The main task of WPBSA is the marketing and organization of Snooker Main Tour. This includes the World Ranking Tournaments, as well as invitational tournaments such as the Masters. The WPBSA also holds the worldwide marketing rights for the sport and takes care of sponsorship deals and the awarding of television broadcasting rights. Also, the association has sovereignty over the general rules of snooker sport. Also for the formulation of the Official Rules, the WPBSA is responsible.

The headquarters of the WPBSA is located in Bristol, England. The Board consists of Jason Ferguson (Chairman ), David Douglas ( Deputy Chairman) and Steve Davis.

In addition to its headquarters in Bristol, the ESC also has branches in London and Beijing.

Assuming the WPBSA the World Confederation of Billiard Sports, which governing body for all disciplines of billiards is, itself, however, does not organize tournaments. In addition, it is subject to the provisions of the WADA.

History

Emerged was the WPBSA from the Billiards Association and Control Council Club, later only Council, abbreviated BA & CC or BACC ( common ). The BACC continued in 1919 for the first time official rules for snooker sports firm and hosted the World Championships in 1927 ( 1 WM) until 1952.
