World Water Day

The World Water Day is held on March 22 every year since 1993. Since 2003 he is being organized by UN-Water. He was in Agenda 21 of the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development ( UNCED) in Rio de Janeiro proposed and adopted by the UN General Assembly passed a resolution on 22 December 1992. Since its first version, he has gained considerable importance.

The UN invites its Member States to use this day to the introduction of UN recommendations and promoting concrete actions in their countries. Each year, takes over one of the many UN agencies that deal with the topic of water, take the lead in promoting and coordinating international activities for World Water Day.

World Water Day 2005 was led by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs ( Department of Economic and Social Affairs, UN DESA ) and marked the beginning of the second UN Decade " Water for Life - Water for Life " ( 2005-2015 ).

In addition to the UN member states also have some non-governmental organizations fighting for clean water and water conservation, World Water Day used to draw public attention to the critical water issues of our time. So follow every three years since 1997, thousands of the reputation of the World Water Council to participate in a World Water Forum during the week of World Water Day. Participating groups and organizations are particularly points to the fore as the fact that a billion people have no access to safe and clean drinking water, or that in many cases the gender plays a role in water access. This means that women will be saddled with the obligation within families to take a long road and effort for bringing drinking water to itself.

Every two years, will be crowned in Germany on World Water Day, the river landscape of the year in 2011 and the type of water the year was first elected for one year.
