Wouter Beke

Wouter Beke ( born August 9, 1974 in Lommel ) is a Belgian politician of the Christian Democratisch en Vlaams (CD & V). Since 2004 he is senator and since the resignation of Marianne Thyssen 23 June 2010 interim chairman of the CD & V. At the local level Wouter Beke is alderman in Leopold castle.

Life

Wouter Beke studied political science at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KUL ), where he received the diploma of licentiate in 1996. He also obtained a diploma at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel ( VUB ) in specialized studies of social legislation (1998 ), and finally received his doctorate in 2004 as a Doctor of Social Sciences at the KUL. Since 1996 Beke is employed at the KUL, where he was first employed as an assistant and PhD student and now as a research fellow.

The political career of Wouter Beke began first at the local level, when he was elected in 2001 to the municipal council of Leopold castle. Later he became Alderman for Social Affairs ( 2004-2006 ) and since 2007, first alderman of the municipality.

In 2003, Beke was appointed on the proposal of Yves Leterme as Vice - President of the CD & V. The following year he moved as Stellvertrer Stefaan De Clerck in the Senate. In the federal elections of 2007 and 2010 Wouter Beke could fight for his mandate of senator due to its preferential votes themselves.

The leap to the party leadership as acting chairman Beke managed so far twice. Was promoted to Secretary of State first from March 21 to May 15, 2008, after Etienne Schouppe, who finished even this place after the resignation of Jo Vandeurzen ad interim; and currently since June 23, 2010 after the resignation of Marianne Thyssen.
