Wünnewil -Flamatt is a municipality in the district of Sense in the canton of Fribourg in Switzerland. Until 1974 the town was officially named Wünnewil.

Geography

Wünnewil -Flamatt is located approximately 12 km northeast of the capital of the canton of Fribourg (air line). The double municipality extends to the sense and to the south adjacent high plateau in the eastern Fribourg plateau.

The area of ​​13.2 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the Molassehügellandes between the valleys of the Sarine and the scythe, which was formed by glacial Rhône glacier. The northern municipal boundary runs along the canalized scythe, which flows in a 500 m wide flat valley floor. In Flamatt opens as an important side stream Taverna. Population

With 5326 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Wünnewil -Flamatt one of the larger municipalities in the canton of Fribourg. History

The territory of Wünnewil was probably already inhabited in Roman times. The first mention of Wünnewil was in 1128 under the name Vilarswinum in the importance of village / hamlet of Wuno. Attractions

The parish of Wünnewil is mentioned since 1264. Today's distinctive parish church of Wünnewil is a 1931-1933 erected concrete construction with unfinished bell tower.
