Xinying District

Xinying, also Sinying or Hsinying (Chinese新 营 区/新 营 区, pinyin Xinying Qū, Tongyong Pinyin Sinyíng Cyu, W.-G. Hsin -ying Chu ) is a district of Tainan City in southwestern Taiwan, Republic of China. It has almost 80,000 inhabitants and was until 2010 as an independent city capital of Tainan County.

Location

Xinying located in the north of the urban area of ​​Tainan in the center of the Jianan level, the greatest level of Taiwan. The core city of Tainan is located about 40 km south, 25 km northeast Jiayi. The surroundings of Xinying is a traditional sugar -growing region. History

Xinying ( German: " new camp " ) was a military camp of Koxinga, the Dutch expelled as a follower of the Ming Dynasty from Taiwan in the 17th century. During the 1895-1945 Japanese permanent control of the island, the town was the administrative center of the prefecture in Tainan. After the return of Taiwan to the Republic of China in 1945 Xinying became the capital of Tainan County. In 1981 the town the status of a city (市, Shì ). On 25 December 2010, the entire Tainan County was incorporated into the city of Tainan, Xinying has since adopted the status of a city district.
