Yadkinville is a place in the state of North Carolina in the United States of America and is located in Yadkin County in the Piedmont Triad. In 2000 Yadkinville had 2,818 inhabitants, making it the largest city in the county; at the same time it is its administrative seat.

History

The area of the city was selected as the county seat in the founding of Yadkin County in 1850. First, the place Wilson was named in honor of Louis D. Wilson, a legislator who died in the Mexican-American War. The name was changed to Yadkinville, when it was discovered that another place was already wearing this name ( see Wilson). At the time the administrative headquarters was built, there was only one house in the place the process of registration was 1857.

Yadkinville is known in the region for its " Fall Festival " and his " Grape Festival ", held in honor of the surrounding vineyards of the Yadkin Valley ( Yadkin Valley AVA), as well as the other regional wine regions.

Demography

According to the census of 2000, there were 2,818 people in Yadkinville. Of these, 413 people were living in collective centers, the other inhabitants lived in 959 households and 641 families. The population density is 400 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial sits down, the population consists of 85.8 percent White, 6.5 percent African American, 0.2 percent Asian, and 6.4 percent from other ethnic groups; 1.1 percent are descended from two or more races. 18.8 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 959 households out of which 30.4 percent of children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.8 percent were married couples living together, 11.6 percent were single mothers and 33.1 percent were non-families. 30.2 percent of all households and 14.3 percent living alone who is 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.51 and the average family size was 3.1 persons.

23.0 percent of the population were under 18 years old. 8.1 percent 18 to 24 years 27.3 percent between 25 and 44, 20.4 percent between 45 and 64, and 21.3 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 91.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 85.6 males.

The median income for a household was $ 31,250, and the median income for a family was $ 45,000. Males had a median income of $ 25,172, women $ 23,893. The per capita income was $ 14,792. 14.4 percent of the population and 10.6 percent of families are below the poverty line. 19.1 percent of them are children and adolescents under age 18 and 13.9 percent are 65 years or older.
