Yakut Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic

The Yakut ASSR ( Yakut Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic) was an autonomous Soviet republic in the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic ( RSFSR ) within the Soviet Union. It existed from 1921 until 1991. The Siberian area is 3.1302 million square kilometers and inhabited by only about one million people. The capital was Yakutsk. The climate is very inhospitable, often temperatures are reached below -50 degrees Celsius. The area has rich mineral resources of coal, gold, diamonds, tin, mica, rock salt and natural gas, but very difficult to achieve and are undeveloped. A small transport infrastructure impedes the development of the sparsely populated country. The most important river is the Lena, is operated on the waterways.
