Yamatokoriyama (Japanese大 和 郡山 市, -shi) is a city in Nara prefecture, Japan.
Geography
Yamatokoriyama lies south of Nara.
History
The city was founded on January 1, 1954.
Economy
Yamatokoriyama is known for its koi breeding. During the Edo period samurai began to cultivate these goldfish as a sideline. Yamatokōriyamas Koi breeding industry is now the largest in Japan. From lack of interest on the part of the younger generation this is, however, declining.
