Yamunotri

Yamunotri (Hindi यमुनोत्री, Yamunotri ) is the first and westernmost city on the famous Hindu pilgrimage route Chota Char Dham in Uttarkashi district in the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand. The other pilgrim places of the route are Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath.

Yamunotri, the source of the Yamuna River and the seat of the deity Yamuna, a day's journey from Rishikesh, Haridwar and Dehradun is removed. The actual temple is situated at an altitude of 3235 m and is accessible only on foot via a six- kilometer route from the place Hanuman Chatti from ( there may also pilgrims horses or palanquins borrow ).

Temple

Originally, the first temple by the Maharani of Jaipur Gularia was erected in the 19th century. The current temple is of recent origin, because previous buildings have been destroyed by weather and other environmental influences. It was built under the Maharaja Pratap Shah of Tehri Garhwal. The statue of the goddess is made of black marble.

The accommodation possibilities here are limited to a few small ashrams and guest houses. The ritual ceremonies such as the production and distribution of prasad ( holy offerings ) and the celebration of pujas (ritual worship rites ) is responsible for the priestly family of Uniyal. For this pilgrimage typical is the production of prasad from rice, which is cooked directly in the local hot springs.
