The Yangon Division is one of the 14 administrative units of Myanmar.

Geography

The Yangon Division bordered to the north and to the east by the Bago Division, to the south by the Bay of Bengal and on the west by the Irrawaddy Division. It is located between 16 ° 20 'North and 17 ° 50' north and between 95 ° 45 ' east and 96 ° 46 ' East. The Cocos Islands north of the Andaman Islands in the Bay of Bengal belong to this division. The Yangon Division is the most developed region of Burma.

Population

The population in 1999 was about 5.42 million. The majority of the population is ethnically Bamar. Religious are most residents Buddhists, followed by Muslims and Christians. The majority of the inhabitants live in the capital of the same Division, Yangon.

Management

The Yangon Division is divided into four districts.

  • Yangon South District

The districts are further divided into 45 municipalities ( townships ).
