Yazd
Yazd (Persian يزد / jæzd / ) (also YASDI, Yazd or Yezd ) is one of the oldest cities of Iran and the capital of the province of Yazd.
Yazd has a population of around 486,500 people (calculated as of 2012). The city is located 250 km east of Isfahan.
Oasis city
Yazd was established at an oasis and is located between the deserts of the Dasht -e Kavir and Dasht - e Lut the. It was established in the third millennium BC and was the center of the Zoroastrian faith in Iran. Here you can still find many fire temples (pers. Atashkadeh ). At its founding, the city should have been due to a now dried-up large inland. For water supply scale water channels and tubes ( Qanat ) are today partly in ancient times used.
History
After the fall of the Sassanid empire and the conquest of Persia by the Muslim Arabs in the 7th century, the city in the Middle Ages, among others, by the local dynasty of Kakuyiden and ( then ) the Atabegs of Yazd mastered before it was conquered by the Mongols, but not destroyed was.
Yazd in 1907 was historically significant as the limit or vertices of the British-Russian spheres of interest were defined contractually in Persia. The Russian influence was north of a line from Yazd, northwest to northeast of Yazd to Kurdistan or the Persian- Afghan- Russian triangle dominate (now the Iranian- Afghan- Turkmen border triangle ), south of the British.
Central Prison
