System

In the past three subspecies of the Yellow -browed warbler have been recognized. The subspecies P. i humei and P. mandellii i have, however, now split off as a separate species, the Tienschanlaubsänger. Reason for the separation were morphological differences and differences in singing. The Yellow -browed Warbler overlaps in its distribution area with the Tienschanlaubsänger. However, the two species do not reproduce with each other. Today it is believed that there was a splitting of the two species from about 2.5 million years ago. The Yellow -browed Warbler and the Tienschanlaubsänger together form a super species because of their close relationship.
