Yevgeny Lopatin

Yevgeny Ivanovich Lopatin (Russian: Евгений Иванович Лопатин; born December 26, 1917 in Balashov; † 21 July 2011) was a successful Soviet weightlifter.

Lopatin came from Saratov and was a member of the Soviet Army. With the weight lifting he began even before the Second World War, but was only after this war several times Soviet Champion. His greatest achievement was winning the silver medal at the 1952 Olympics in Helsinki. The start of Soviet weightlifter options at the time were limited because the Soviet Union did not participate in the 1948 Olympic Games and also not at the World Championships in 1947, 1949 and 1951. Especially in those years was Yevgeny Lopatin at the peak of its performance. In 1954 he ended his sports career. His son Sergei Lopatin rose in his footsteps and also became a successful weightlifter.
