Yinka Shonibare
Yinka Shonibare ( b. 1962 in London) is a British- Nigerian artist, printed mainly by working with Dutch Wax, colorful cotton fabrics has become known. Shonibare discovered by chance on the Brixton Market in London that the Dutch Wax fabrics from which a professional costume establishes the Victorian clothes for him, were originally discovered by the Dutch.
Life and work
Yinka Shonibare, MBE leads the title since 2005, was born in London in 1962. His father, a Nigerian lawyer moved the family to Lagos, Nigeria when he was three years old. Shonibare speaks English and his native language Yoruba.
Shonibare went back to Britain to there later his schooling with the advanced level complete.
At the age of eighteen he contracted Transverse Myelitis and it is paralyzed as a long-term follow- sided.
From 1984 to 1989 he studied painting at the Byam Shaw School of Art, now Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design and in 1989 at Goldsmiths, University of London, where he completed his studies with a master until 1991.
His son, the artist Kayode Shonibare - Lewis was born in 1990, while Shonibare shape for arts worked, an organization in London, makes art accessible to people with disabilities. He lives and works in the East End of London.
Shonibare was invited by Okwui Enwezor to Documenta 11 in 2002. There he exhibited his work Gallantry and Criminal Conversation, which meant the international breakthrough for him. Shonibare is one of the Young British Artists, and was elected as an artistic means of expression, sculpture, photography, installation, painting and film.
