Youki Kudoh
Youki Kudoh (Japanese工藤 夕 贵, Kudō Yūki, born January 17, 1971 in Hachioji ) is a Japanese actress and singer.
Life and achievements
Kudoh began at the age of 12 years, a career as a singer. As an actress she made her debut in a major role in the comedy The Family with the reverse jet propulsion in 1984, for which she received a prize from the Yokohama Film Festival in 1985. In 1986, she sang all the songs for the anime a Wonderful Pollyanna. For her starring role in the comedy Mystery Train ( 1989) by Jim Jarmusch, she won the Independent Spirit Award in 1990. Seishun for her starring role in the film Sensō to (1991 ), she received the 1991 Hochi Film Award and the 1992 Blue Ribbon Award, also she was nominated in 1992 as Best Actress for the Japanese Academy Award. In 1993, she had the lead role in the musical to the novel Kiki's Delivery Service, in 1994, another in the film drama Picture Bride.
In the Australian thriller Heaven's Burning (1997 ) took Kudoh alongside Russell Crowe one of the main roles. Her role at the side of Ethan Hawke in the film drama Snow Falling on Cedars (1999) earned her a nomination for the 2000 Golden Satellite Award. In the action comedy Rush Hour 3 (2007) she played alongside Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan one of the major roles.
Time magazine Asia published in 1999 an article of the actress in which she complains, the Japanese were to blame for the presence of U.S. values in Japanese culture.
