Training of employees

The aim here is to train new employees and to teach how the gospel can be spread.

The University of the Nations ( UofN ) was founded in 1978 by YWAM and currently operates schools in over 190 countries on all continents. Most schools of UofN offer a three-month, theoretical seminar and then a 2 - to 3 -month to practical use.

On the basis of biblical and Christian values they want to bring more people into the development of their personality and their skills so that they can take and fill their place in society and the church in world mission and community life consciously. Training, discipleship, which lives from relationships, and practical application of acquired knowledge are inseparable for them.

In JMEMs University, the University of the Nations ( UofN ), Christians can achieve a degree in disciplines such as science and technology, languages , development aid and Christian ministries.

The Discipleship Training School (English: Discipleship Training School [ DTS ] ) is the basic prerequisite for every full-time YWAM staff, and serves as the entry-level program to all other training opportunities.

Every year at one of the worldwide training locations approximately 20,000 students at UofN courses are offered.

Charitable services ( Mercy Ministries )

Practical (development ) aid and charitable projects are summarized under this term. The development projects are often carried out in conjunction with the training (eg, the seminar group of the Department of basic medical training along with doctors then performs operations in areas through which have no medical infrastructure). One of the most well-known concepts are hospital ships, the YWAM company under the name Mercy Ships. Mercy Ships is now on its own, but often works with YWAM.

Structures

YWAM has a decentralized structure, and each center is completely self-contained.

YWAM Germany is now managed by a board consisting of Andreas Frész, Daniela screen and Frank Bauer. YWAM International is now managed by Lynn Green, Ian Muir and John Dawson.

Financing

YWAM is financed ( such as the international business ) from donations, seminar and training fees, rent, foundation grants and subsidies. In dealing with the donations, the donations principles of the Evangelical Alliance are considered.

YWAM staff are not paid centrally by YWAM, but finance themselves. Called by constituencies, consisting of individuals and communities

Controversies

There have been allegations repeatedly in the past, some YWAM leader would have authoritarian personalities and were so intimidated subordinates.

From representatives of the people of the Akha in Thailand the staff of YWAM lack of respect for other cultures was accused. In addition to the hundreds of other ethnic groups, under which staff of YWAM work, this is an exception and causes employees YWAM to learn from their mistakes.

Furthermore, the Überkonfessionalität YWAM always leads to controversies surrounding the teaching between YWAM and individual denominations. At the same time it must be noted that a very large majority of the staff itself comes from a religious background and the subject unit is a central guiding principle of YWAM among Christians. It is also described in which base values.

Some leading members of the American YWAM still apply as exponents of the controversial even in charismatic circles " spiritual warfare". Helge Stadelmann and Alexander Seibel also subsume the YWAM among the representatives of the Torontosegens.

Debate about YWAM Herrnhut

The establishment of a YWAM training center in 2004 Ruppersdorf at Herrnhut came up against the resistance of the Moravian Church, which feared possible conflicts and occupation of their tradition. The discussion then led to an article in the news magazine Der Spiegel, which was later criticized by YWAM, without, however, deny the disagreements with the Brethren.

Debate about infanticide in Brazilian indigenous

Produced by YWAM film Hakani reported that there is a widespread practice of infanticide were at Brazilian indigenous, and therefore calls for the introduction of a law which would permit public authorities, in case of suspicion " harmful traditional practices ", children from indigenous communities or remove families. Indigenous activists and the human rights organization Survival International YWAM throw in this case interference in the lifestyle of the indigenous population.
