Yuri Ahronovitch

Yuri Mikhailovich Aronowitsch (Russian Юрий Михайлович Аронович; Hebrew יורי אהרונוביץ'; born May 13, 1932 in Leningrad, † October 31, 2002 in Cologne) was an Israeli conductor of Russian origin.

Aronowitsch studied at the conservatory of his native music and then conducting with Natan Rachlin and Kurt Sanderling. In 1964 he became chief conductor of the Symphony Orchestra of Moscow Radio. In 1972 he emigrated to Israel. Concerts as a guest conductor with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, among others followed. From 1975 to 1986 he was chief conductor of the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne, 1982-1987 also of the Stockholm Philharmonic. As an opera conductor was Aronowitsch welcome guest at many major venues.
