Yuri Shevchuk

Yuri Shevchuk Julianowitsch (Russian Юрий Юлианович Шевчук; scientific transliteration Yuri Julianovic Ševčuk; born May 16, 1957 in Yagodnoye, Magadan Oblast, USSR ) is a Russian musician, poet, composer, producer and actor. He is best known as the founder and lead singer of the song which was founded in the Bashkir capital Ufa rock band DDT, which was one of the most famous bands of the Soviet Underground in the 1980s and to this day is very popular.

Shevchuk is one of the most famous rock musician and singer of Russia and simultaneously a committed critic of the government of Vladimir Putin. He participated in 2008 in the march of the discontented. Attracted international attention the televising of a discussion between Putin and Shevchuk at a reception in May 2010 in St. Petersburg, where the musicians demanded the observances of the rights to freedom of dissent in Russia.

Shevchuk lives and works today (2011) in Saint Petersburg.
