The pogrom went out almost exclusively by the Ruthenian ( Ukrainian ) peasantry, the Jews their loyalty to the dominant Galicia Poland accused. 1910 lived in Zablotow 2171 Jews and 2587 Others, mainly Ruthenians.

Manès Sperber describes his birth, his shtetl in his autobiography:

" Zablotow - the name alone is unpleasant: He alludes to the loamy soil on the unpaved streets, where they threatened to sink as soon as the incessant rain fall they had softened. I ... I have spoken of the poverty of Städtels? The word is misleading because quite inadequate. Hardly ever really sattzuessen was the fate of most ... How many also starved, no one starved. Moreover, they avoided ... [ the Jews ] as possible the villages [ the Ukrainians ] because they feared with right to meet there the hostility. Nevertheless, the town had no ghettos, but essentially standard as well as by definition the opposite. A shtetl was not the appendage of a Christian community within the precincts, not a discriminated foreign body within a higher civilization, but on the contrary, a sharply profiled in their basics well-established autonomous community with a peculiar culture - this in the midst of poverty and ugliness, and encircled by enemies of the Jewish faith. The shtetl was a center, seen from which the Slav villages were peripheral urban areas, whose inhabitants, mostly illiterate, the spiritual barely had a relationship. "

After the end of Austria -Hungary in 1920 Sabolotiw Polish. 1939, the area was occupied due to the Hitler - Stalin Pact of the Soviet Union. In 1941 it was conquered by the German army. The Jewish population, who could not escape in time, was murdered in the Holocaust.
