Salesche (Polish Zalesie Śląskie ) is a place in the bilingual Polish community Leschnitz ( Leśnica ) in the district Strzelce of the Opole Voivodeship.

Geography

Salesche is located approximately 35 kilometers southeast of Opole and 6 km southeast of Leschnitz in the historic Upper Silesia. Salesche is a 2 kilometer long street village in north-south orientation.

History

Salesche situated on the way of Leschnitz after Sławięcice. The village was first mentioned in 1223 in a document as Zalese, ie a settlement "after the forest ". The monastery in Czarnowąsy has been granted the right to tithe collection of Salesche. 1223 was a grist wooden church in Salesche. Later, a brick church was built, the Gothic choir is obtained ( in 1400 ) until today.

The name was written in the documents over the centuries in different ways. 1376 Zalesie Sląskie is mentioned as Zales, 1418 as Zalis, 1534 as Sales, 1571 as Zalesny, 1581 Zaless 1757 as Zaleze, 1845 Salesche (Polish Zalesie ).

The population of Salesche lived from farming, market gardening and small craft. Almost to the end of the 19th century was here a small trade to Great Strehlitz. 1768 came here because of ongoing disputes regarding the increase of the tithe to unrest. Already in 1783 had Salesche own school. Since 1934 located in Salesche a station of the route Great Strehlitz - Kędzierzyn. Interesting from an archaeological point of view of the finding of a significant amount of silver coins is in a Lehmgefäß. The more than 7,000 whole and some cut or broken coins probably date from the year 1278th

In the plebiscite in Upper Silesia on 20 March 1921 which was accompanied in the area of civil wars, voted in the village and Good Salesche total of 367 persons to remain in Germany and 606 for Poland. Salesche but remained as the entire voting district of Gross Strehlitz the German Reich.

From 1933 the new Nazi rulers large-scale renaming of place names of Slavic origin conducted. 1935, the village name was changed to United Salesche Walden.

1945 was the place as Zalesie Śląskie Poland.

In 2006, the Gmina Leschnitz, the Salesche as the district belongs, German as an auxiliary language, and in 2008 a bilingual place names.

Attractions

The Catholic parish church of St. Hedwig is a Gothic building of 14-15. Century back, the choir has with masks consoles get to this day. From 1812 to 1825 a new nave was built with low front tower facade, designed by architect Karl Heintze from Ujest - an early example of Gothic Revival architecture.
