Zanesville is a city in Ohio. It is the capital of the Muskingum County and has 25,361 inhabitants. Zanesville was in 1797 by Ebenezer Zane, after whom the city is named, and whose son John McIntire founded at the place where Zane's Trace and the Muskingum River crossing. Zanesville was from 1810-12, the second state capital of Ohio.

Geography

Zanesville is located at the confluence of the Muskingum River and Licking River. The metropolitan area is 29.8 km2, 29.1 km2 of land and are covered 0.7 km2 of water.

Demography

2000, there were 10,572 households, and 6438 families residing in the city. The population density was 878.9 inhabitants per square kilometer. The people populated 11662 houses. The population was spread out with 85.48 % White, 10.76 % African American, 0.4% Native American, 0.23 % Asian, and 2.7 % Mixed. 26.8 % were younger than 18, 9.5% 18-24, 27.8 % 25-44, 20.5% 45-65 and 15.5 % are over 65 years old. For every 100 females are 85.3 men for every 100 girls under 18 are 79.3 boys.

Traffic

At the air traffic of the city over the Zanesville Municipal Airport is connected to the long distance network via the Interstate 70, US40 and US22, which lead both to Cambridge, as well as the state hghways 60, 93, 666, 555, 719 and 146, the busiest street of the city is the Maple Avenue that leads to the north -south axis through the city.
