Železný Brod

Zelezny Brod ( German Eisenbrod ) is a town in the Liberec Region in the Czech Republic. It is located in northern Bohemia in Okres Jablonec nad Nisou right of the Jizera on the railway line Pardubice- Liberec. Due to their favorable long it is an appropriate starting point for trips to the Giant Mountains, Jizera Mountains and the reserve Bohemian Paradise.

History

Zelezny Brod is an ancient glass-making town, founded in the 11th century. Originally named Brod or Brodek ( ford or small ford ) and only in the 14th century the name came Zelezny ( Eisern ) was added, which should point to the resident ironworks. 1501 the coat of arms was created and named the place by King Vladislav II to the city. Zelezny Brod in 1880 had 2698 inhabitants and was the seat of the district court. The cotton mill was working with 50,000 spindles.

In Zelezny Brod play today jewelers and the production of blown glass, thermometers and small glass products such as glass figures an important role.

Basic settlement units are Brodec ( Brodetz ) Bzi, Černická skala, Dvírka, Horecká stráň, Horská Kamenice, Hrubá Horka, Chlístov, Jiráskovo nábřeží, Jirkov, Křiby, Malá Horka, Pelechov, Popluž ( Poplus ) Poříčí Propastný, Splzov, Střevelná, Těpeře, Těpeřská stráň, Veseli, VRSi, Zelezny Brod and Záskalí - střed.

The municipality is divided into the Katastralbezirke Bzi u Železného Brodu, Horská Kamenice, Hrubá Horka, Chlístov u Železného Brodu, Jirkov u Železného Brodu, Zelezny Brod and Střevelná.
