Željko Buvač ( Serbian Cyrillic Жељко Бувач; * September 13, 1961 in Banja Luka, SFR Yugoslavia) is a Yugoslavian and Bosnian - Herzegovinian football coach and former football player of Serbian descent. He stands as an assistant coach Jürgen Klopp at Borussia Dortmund under contract.

Career

Buvač played as a midfielder from 1986 to 1991 for FK Borac Banja Luka, with whom he won the 1988 Yugoslav Cup football and ascended into the first Yugoslav Football League the following year. In 1991 he came to Germany and played for second division FC Rot -Weiß Erfurt (1991 /92) and 1 FSV Mainz 05 (1992 to 1995) and for the then third division SC Neukirchen. In 112 games Buvač second division scored 20 goals.

After the end of his active career Buvač 1998 was head coach of SC Neukirchen, before former team-mate Jurgen Klopp, who was 05 a few months earlier changed at Mainz on the bench as an assistant coach caught up with him in the summer 2001 back to Mainz. Together with Klopp, he joined the Season 2008/ 09 to Borussia Dortmund.

On August 13, 2013 Buvač was introduced as coach of the national team of the Republika Srpska, after the NFSBIH had the request from the Bosnian republic of Republika Srpska approved for the discharge of friendlies against FIFA members.
