Željko Obradović

Želimir " Željko " Obradovic ( Serbian Cyrillic Желимир " Жељко " Обрадовић; born March 9, 1960 in Čačak, Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia ) is a retired Serbian professional basketball player. As a player, already world champion, he is a trainer since 1991 and is now with 32 titles won, including another world title as a coach, as the best and most successful coaches of European basketball history. 2008 Obradovic has been awarded as one of the top 50 players in the history of the European League.

Obradovic as a player

He began his career at Borac Čačak Obradovic, where he was for six years under contract. In 1983 he moved to Partizan Belgrade where he was finally able to celebrate his first successes. In addition to a championship and a European Cup win, he won a silver medal at the Olympics and a World Basketball Championship. During his active career Obradovic played on the position of point guard.

Obradovic as coach

Obradovićs began his coaching career in 1991 when he finished his active career as a player at the age of only 31 years and at Partizan Belgrade where he still a few weeks earlier went as a player on baskets hunting, the coach took office. In his first season, thus winning the Double next to the Serbian Championship and the Cup and secured Partizan. In the following years Obradovic coached a number of top European teams. In addition to national success, it was mainly his international successes, created a stir and let him ascend into the circle of top European coach.
