Zenzo Shimizu

Zenzo Shimizu (Japanese清水 善 造, born March 25, 1891 in Misato, Gunma Prefecture, † 12 April or 12 August 1977 in Osaka or Amagasaki ) was a Japanese tennis player.

Career

Shimizu reached on his debut at the 1920 Wimbledon Championships at first the final of the All- Comers competition. There, however, he lost to the eventual winner Bill Tilden in three sets. The following year he came again before the semi-finals, in which he had to admit the Spaniard Manuel Alonso beaten. In 1921, he won the tournament at London's Queen's Club. At the U.S. Championships in 1922, he was also able to reach the quarter-finals.

At the Davis Cup in 1921, he reached with his compatriot Kumagai Ichiya the final, which the Japanese team lost against the USA.

Shimizu died in 1977 at the age of 86 years.
