Zephaniah Platt (Michigan Attorney General)

Zephaniah Platt ( born March 31, 1796 in Pleasant Valley, Dutchess County, New York, † April 20, 1871 in Aiken, South Carolina) was an American lawyer and politician.

Zephaniah Platt was the son of Jonas Platt, associate judge of the Supreme Court of New York, and Helen ( Livingston ) Platt ( 1767-1859 ). He was baptized in the Presbyterian Church in Pleasant Valley ( New York). On September 30, 1818, he married Cornelia Jenkins († 1890). The couple had seven children together.

He moved into the Michigan Territory, where he practiced law in Jackson. Later, he was from 1841 to 1843 Attorney General of Michigan. After the end of the Civil War he moved to South Carolina, where he was a judge on the 2nd District Court of 1868 worked until his death in 1871.
