Žernov

Žernov ( until 1921 Žernovy, German Schernau ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic. It is located four kilometers north of Česká Skalice and belongs to Okres Náchod.

Geography

Žernov is on the left above the designated údolí in this area as Babiččino Valley of the Upa. To the west lie the remains of the giant castle.

Neighboring towns are Cervena Hora in the north, popluží and Všeliby in the northeast, Bakov, Na Pastvišti and Třtice in the east, Studnice and Kozlar the southeast, Zlíč and Ratiborice in the south, Heřmaničky Dvůr and Vestec the southwest, Pohodlí, Rýzmburk and Svetla in the west and Litoboř and Slatina nad Úpou in the northwest.

History

The first mention of Žernov was 1417th The village belonged to the rule Riesenburg. After the castle in the 16th century had been abandoned, Zikmund Smiřický bought from Smiřice in 1600 the rule Riesenburg with all eight associated villages and closed it to the reign Náchod.

After the abolition of patrimonial Žernovy formed with the districts Ratiborice and Riesenburg 1850 a municipality in the district of Nové Město nad Metují. At the end of the 19th century came to the district Vestec Náchod. 1921 was the amendment to the Czech city name Žernovy in Žernov. With the beginning of 1961 Ratiborice was spun off and umgemeindet to Česká Skalice.

Community structure

The municipality consists of the villages Žernov Rýzmburk ( Riesenburg ) and Žernov ( Schernau ) and the settlement Pohodlí ( Pohodly ).
