Żoliborz

Żoliborz is one of the Districts of the Polish capital Warsaw. It lies north of the city center on the left side of the Vistula.

The area belonged in the 18th century the Piaristen a Warsaw monastery. The monks laid plots to the colonization of these areas. One of these plots was named board Jolie, French for Beautiful dam. Later, the Polish translation Żoliborz was established as a name.

The most significant landmark in Żoliborz is the Citadel with its surrounding park.
