ZON Optimus

Summary

A reorganization of the Portugal Telecom has led in 1996 to define different areas: fixed telephony, mobile telephone network, cable television, multimedia, business, international activities, innovation and information systems. In the fall of 2007, the process of separation between Portugal Telecom and PT Multimedia was completed with the creation of TV Cabo Portugal, PT Comunicações as future competitors. 2008 TV Cabo was renamed in ZON Multimedia. As a result, the spin-off in 2007 founded the telecommunications company Meo - Serviços de Comunicações e Multimédia SA.

2013, the merger of Zon Multimédia and Optimus was announced at Zon Optimus. The agreement provides for an increase of the share capital of Zon. Activities in Africa

In Angola, TV Cabo Portugal began with the construction of a network in 2002, with marketing services in 2005. The expansion of the network is not limited to the capital, Luanda, but also extends to Benguela and Lobito, where a fully based on advanced fiber-optic network technology has been installed.

In a joint venture with the Angolan businesswoman Isabel dos Santos, eldest daughter of the president, launched the Portuguese ZON Multimédia ZAP, a satellite-based pay- TV program in Angola. 30 percent of the business remain in ZON, while Isabel dos Santos about the company SOCIP - Sociedade de Investimentos e Participações holds, SA, an Angolan investment and holding company, the remaining 70 percent share.
