Zoot (band)

Zoot was an Australian pop / rock band from Adelaide, was established in 1965. Even if you fell pretty hard even in their home country the start, slowly gathered a small following around the band, and in 1968 the national breakthrough was then done. In the same year the band moved to Melbourne and started a small tour. Two of the more well-known members of the formation were Beeb Birtles, who then founded the Little River Band in 1975, and Rick Springfield, who achieved great success in the United States as a solo artist, songwriter and actor.

Influences

Zoots influences were spilled over in their early days especially Mod and Merseybeatmusik which the mid- 60s from England. End of the 60s, the band also took on increasingly harder songs, along the lines of Deep Purple, Ten Years After and Led Zeppelin.

The first appearance (1965-1967)

Although Zoot were one of the most popular Australian groups of the '60s, their music is often described as " Teen " - dismissed or " bubblegum " music. You attributed a rather delicate and even gay appearance. This is mainly because that the band's management devised a " Think- Pink - Think- Zoot " campaign. The plan was to put all members of the band in pink stuff to let them drive around in a pink car, and even a dog whose fur was dyed pink to always carry with them. Although the press attention was aroused because of this appearance and also many young girls were fans, this change seemed rather poorly on the band. She had hardly any male fans, and its credibility as a serious rock musician was also caught in the crossfire of criticism.

The new appearance (1968-1971)

Zoot were tired of being ridiculed by the press and the male audience and insulted as " fags ", and decided in 1968 for itself a new appearance. In a live performance, which was broadcast on television, they therefore set fire in 1968 her pink stuff on the stage. Their first single with the new image was Hey Pinky. The song is played very hard and reminiscent of Led Zeppelin. The song was written by Rick Springfield, but was able to record any successful placement in the Australian charts. Even a cover of Eleanor Rigby Beatle - piece did not get the expected success, and so the band split in 1971.
