Zsolt Erőss

Zsolt Erőss ( born March 7, 1968 in Miercurea Ciuc, Romania, † probably on May 21, 2013 at Kangchenjunga ) was a Hungarian mountaineer. He climbed ten of the fourteen eight-thousanders, including one in 2002 as the first Hungarian citizen Mount Everest.

Life

Erőss began in 1981 with the mountaineering. By 1993, he climbed the five highest peaks in the former Soviet Union and received the Snow Leopard Order. Since 1992 he lived in Hungary and had Hungarian citizenship accepted.

After he participated in expeditions to Mount Everest in 1996 and 2001, he reached in 2002 as the first Hungarian citizens the summit. Previously had climbed with Zoltán Demján already a native of Hungary climber of Mount Everest, which was, however Czechoslovak citizens.

2010 had Erőss in the Tatra an accident, as a result, his right leg had to be amputated below the knee. He subsequently received a prosthesis, but could continue climbing anyway. In 2011 he ascended as the Lhotse and on May 20, 2013 together with his partner Péter Kiss Kangchenjunga. On the descent to base camp in 7600 meters both climbers were killed.
