Zsuzsa Körmöczy

Zsuzsa Körmöczy [ ʒuʒɒ kørmøtsi ] (* August 25, 1924, † 16 September 2006) was a Hungarian tennis player.

Körmöczy won 1958 Roland Garros ( the French Tennis Championships, today French Open ) the final against the defending champion Shirley Bloomer with 6:4, 1:6 and 6:2. That was the first and last Grand Slam title of a Hungarian woman today. She was the 1958 Athlete of the Year in Hungary, Körmöczy was the first woman to receive this award. In 1958, she also reached the third place in Wimbledon and at that time was second in the world tennis rankings. In 1964, she ended her active career, worked as a trainer for Vasas Budapest and was manager of the national tennis federation. After the fall of communism, she was awarded by the democratic government in 1994 and 2003.
