2006 World Snooker Championship

The Snooker World Cup 2006 was held from 15 April 2006 to 1 May 2006 at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield place and marked the completion of the snooker season 2005/06. A change of the main sponsor was held at this World Cup. The previous sponsor Embassy withdrew, the new sponsor has been 888.com. The title was won the Scot Graeme Dott by a 18:14 final win over Peter Ebdon.

Defending champion Shaun Murphy was. Peter Ebdon threw the second year in a row, the reigning world champion out of the race for the world championship ( 13:7 against Murphy in the quarter-finals, 2005: 13:11 against Ronnie O'Sullivan in the quarter- finals).

The defeat against Neil Robertson 5:10 was the last match for Paul Hunter as a professional. The suffering from cancer snooker players did not return to the main tour back and died on 9 October 2006. Marco Fu was the first Asian player since 1997, which reached the semi-finals of a World Cup.

Qualification

As the pre-qualification, the qualification in Prestatyn took place. Round 1 to 3 took place between the 6th and 13th January 2006. The fourth round was followed on 14 and 15 March 2006.

With 46 Century Breaks in the final Centuries significantly less than in the previous year were achieved (63). In the qualification Robert Milkins managed a maximum break.
