46th Venice International Film Festival
The 46th International Film Festival of Venice took place between September 15, 1989 September 4. Together with counting Cannes and the Berlinale the most significant film festivals in the world, it was led by Guglielmo Biraghi. In the third year of Biraghi tenure changed the official title of the Film Festival Mostra Internazionale de Cinéma in Mostra Internazionale d' Arte Cinematografica. This was done in order to open the previously strictly focused on movies festival for television and video productions. However, a planned series Venezia TV did not materialize. The title Mostra Internazionale d' Arte Cinematografica carry the film festival today.
As the opening film Peter Brooks nearly three-hour theatrical adaptation Mahabharata was selected, which was shown out of competition. 23 feature film productions received an invitation in the official competition. France was represented by a total of four films, including three European co-productions. Films out of competition
