Aach, Rhineland-Palatinate

Aach is a municipality in the Trier -Saar castle in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Trier -Land.

Geographical location

The community Aach is on the edge of the urban area of ​​Trier, about six kilometers north of the city center and geographically belongs to the Southern Eifel.

Districts are the chief town Aach, the villages of High and Weir Born sun and the east of Federal Highway 51 situated part of Neuhaus. The western part of Neuhaus belongs to the local church Trierweiler. Aach has with its districts a total of approximately 1,100 inhabitants.

Neighboring municipalities are Newel, Ralingen and Trierweiler.

History

At an early settlement suggest Bronze Age and Roman finds. Aach was first mentioned in 953 under the name Aquacuum. Although the village was located near Trier, it was not part of the Electorate of Trier, but belonged to a rich free reign Trier Benedictine monastery of St. Irminen, which still bears witness to a baroque Stiftshof from 1752. The kingdom of freedom meant that here after their expulsion from Trier many Jews settled in the 16th century, remains still visible today was built in 1860 a synagogue and a Jewish cemetery. Some Aacher Jewish origin could emigrate in time according to the so-called seizure of power by the National Socialists, but 14 of them were deported and murdered, including the child Margot Levy, who was born in 1937 in Aach.

In 1794, the left bank of the Rhine was occupied by French revolutionary troops. From 1798 to 1814, the place of the French canton Pfalzel belonged in the Saarland Department and was the capital of a Mairie. Following the decisions of the Congress of Vienna, Department of the Saar in 1815 almost entirely attributed to the Kingdom of Prussia. Under Prussian administration Aach in 1816 the seat of a mayor, were among the administratively the communities Beßlich, Lorich, Newel and Olk, and was assigned to the then newly created district of Trier in the same county.
