Schoden

Schoden is a municipality in the Trier -Saar castle in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Saar castle.

Geographical location

The place is situated on the lower Saar. On the rising slopes wine production.

History

At the time of Louis the Pious, the place was mentioned as Scoda in 816 and in 953 Scodam as property of the Abbey of St. Trier Irminen ( Oeren ) was called, who used the cultivation of vines. Today, the " Schodener Saarfeilser Marienberg " and the " Schodener Herrenberg " are among the most prime locations on the Saar.

On July 18, 1946 Schoden was attached together with a further 80 municipalities in the counties registers and the Saar castle in February 1946 separated from the rest of the French occupation zone Saar, which no longer was under the Allied Control Council at the time. On June 6, 1947 this territorial carve-out was taken back up to 21 communities again so Schoden came to the 1946 newly formed state of Rhineland -Palatinate.

In the course of the Saar expansion to major waterway Schoden received a weir. This forms a walk and bike to use connectivity over the Saar to the opposite place Ayl - Biebelhausen. The dam separates the Saaraltarm from Saar channel.
