Aboncourt-Gesincourt

Aboncourt - Gesincourt is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté ( east of France ).

Geography

Aboncourt - Gesincourt situated at an altitude of 228 m above sea level, 8 km southeast of Jussey, about 21 km northwest of the town of Vesoul ( straight line ) and 77 km north of Besancon. The village is located in the northwestern part of the department, in the dale of the Ruisseau d' Aboncourt, west of Saônetals.

The area of ​​10.68 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the gently undulating countryside to the west of the upper Saônetals. The central part of the area occupied by the basin of the Ruisseau d' Aboncourt, which provides for the drainage to the north- east to the Saône. The valley is flanked on both sides by an undulating plateau, which is on average 250 m. Agricultural land use predominates here. To the northeast, the municipality area extends down to the Alluvialniederung the Saône. To the southwest the land rises slightly to the wooded height of the Grand Lien, on the 315 meters, the highest elevation of Aboncourt - Gesincourt is achieved. He belongs to the foothills of the plateau of Combeaufontaine. In geological- tectonic terms, the area consists of an alternation of sandy- marly and calcareous sediments of the Lias ( Lower Jurassic ).

The double municipality consists of the villages Aboncourt (228 m) in the valley of the Ruisseau d' Aboncourt and Gesincourt (238 m) at the entrance to the adjacent plateau. Neighboring communities of Aboncourt - Gesincourt are Gevigney -et- Mercey and Fouchécourt in the north, Purgerot in the east, the south and Arbecey Lambrey in the West.

History

Remains from the Gallo- Roman period indicate a very early settlement of the area. Aboncourt is mentioned in the 10th century as the parish seat. Gesincourt occupied since 1150. In the Middle Ages Aboncourt and Gesincourt belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. Aboncourt the reign Amance was assumed. His church went in 1256 to the monastery of Saint -Vincent in Besançon. Together with the Franche- Comté reached both towns with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. In 1964 merged Aboncourt and Gesincourt to double community. Today Aboncourt - Gesincourt is a member of the comprehensive eight villages municipal association Communauté de communes of Vertes Valleys.

Attractions

The Church of Aboncourt was rebuilt in the 19th century. It has remarkable painted wooden statues from the 16th to the 18th century. The municipal administration is housed in a former chapel from the 17th century. In both towns there are several houses from the 17th to the 19th century, showing the traditional style of the Haute -Saône. In Gesincourt is the Maison des franchises.

Population

With 221 inhabitants (1 January 2011 ) is Aboncourt - Gesincourt to the small towns in the Haute- Saône. Throughout the 20th century, the population decreased continuously (1896 were still 467 persons counted ). A slight population growth was recorded again only in recent years.

Economy and infrastructure

Aboncourt - Gesincourt was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village. Today, there are some establishments of local small businesses, including a cheese factory. In recent decades the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road that leads from Port-sur- Saône to Jussey. Further road links exist with Lambrey and Fouchécourt.
