Augicourt

Augicourt is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Augicourt situated at an altitude of 248 m above sea level, 6 km south of Jussey and about 26 km northwest of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the north- west of the department, in the gently undulating countryside on the eastern edge of the plateau of Langres, on the edge of the heights of Cherlieu, west of the valley of the Ruisseau du Bas des Veaux.

The area of ​​9.06 km ² municipal area includes a portion in the region of the plateau west of the Saônetals. The main part of the area is occupied by a gently undulating plateau, which averages to 250 m and is used mainly for agricultural purposes. The southern and eastern boundary runs in a valley, which is drained by the Ruisseau du Bas des Veaux northeast across the Ougeotte Saône. To the north, the land rises gradually to the wooded ridges of Grand Bois, at the 309 m, the highest point reached by Augicourt. The area around Augicourt consists of an alternation of calcareous and sandy- marly sediments of the lower Jurassic period.

Neighboring communities of Augicourt are Bougey and Gevigney -et- Mercey in the north, Lambrey in the east, and Arbecey Semmadon in the south and Oigney in the West.

History

Is first mentioned Augicourt in 1148 under the name Ogescort. In the Middle Ages the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government had held the Vergy which gave the fief Augicourt a noble family of the same name. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. After the French Revolution in 1793 Augicourt chief town of a canton, which was incorporated in 1803 in the Canton Combeaufontaine. Today Augicourt is a member of the comprehensive eight villages municipal association Communauté de communes of Vertes Valleys.

Attractions

The Church of Augicourt dates from the 17th and 18th centuries. It has a richly carved pulpit in the Louis XIV style, as well as relics and statues from the time it was built. The village is characterized by numerous houses from the 17th and 18th centuries, showing the traditional style of the Haute -Saône. A former seat of power is now used as a farm. In the 19th century covered Lavoir was built, which was once a laundry and watering cattle.

Population

With 162 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Augicourt one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1896 410 persons were still counted ), a slight population growth was recorded since the early 1990s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Augicourt is still a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in town. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road that leads from Jussey after Combeaufontaine. Further road links exist with Lambrey, Arbecey, Oigney and Bougey.
