Bougey

Bougey is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Bougey situated at an altitude of 235 m above sea level, 6 km southwest of Jussey and about 28 km northwest of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the northwestern part of the département, in a valley basin south of the Ougeotte in the eastern foothills of the heights of Cherlieu.

The area of ​​8.56 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the undulating countryside to the west of the upper Saônetals. The central part of the area occupied by the Alluvialniederung Bougey of which is an average 230 m. The sink has a width of about two kilometers and is drained by the village stream to the northeast to Ougeotte. Is flanked to the south by the valley ridge of the Grand Bois and Bois des Noues, on the 319 meters, the highest elevation of Bougey is achieved. To the west, the municipality's area extends to the heights of the Forêt de Cherlieu (315 m). These ridges form the south-eastern foothills of the plateau of Langres. In geological- tectonic respect, they consist of an alternation of sandy- marly and calcareous sediments of the Lias ( Lower Jurassic ). The northern boundary runs mostly along the Ougeotte that drains the area to the Saône.

Neighboring communities of Bougey are Jussey in the north, Gevigney -et- Mercey and Augicourt in the east, the south and Oigney Montigny- lès- Cherlieu in the West.

History

Remains of Gallo- Roman period ( wall foundations and pillars ) indicate a very early settlement of the area. The Church of Bougey mentioned in documents in 1127. Since the 13th century it was owned by the monastery Cherlieu. In the Middle Ages the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. Bougey formed its own rule, which belonged to the lords of Pesmes before they went to a side branch of the Grammont in the 15th century. Together with the Franche -Comté Bougey came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today Bougey is a member of the comprehensive eight villages municipal association Communauté de communes of Vertes Valleys.

Attractions

The village church of Bougey was rebuilt in 1851. It is home altars from the 18th century and several grave slabs. With 87 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Bougey one of the smallest municipalities in the department of Haute- Saône.
