Combeaufontaine

Combeaufontaine is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté. It is the capital of the canton in the arrondissement of Vesoul Combeaufontaine.

Geography

Combeaufontaine situated at an altitude of 250 m above sea level, 12 km west of Port- sur -Saône, approximately 22 km west-northwest of the town of Vesoul (air line). The former village street lines extends to the west of the département, in the gently undulating landscape on the plateau west of the Saône, in a small valley in the headwaters of Ravin.

The area of ​​12:19 km ² municipal area includes a portion in the region of the plateau west of the Saônetals. The central part of the area occupied by the basin of Ravin, which rises here and ensures the drainage south to the Saône. This trough is flanked by the high surface area of ​​Combeaufontaine that reaches an average height of 280 m. In the Talniederung and on the plateau dominates agricultural use, but there are larger areas of forest, particularly in the town limits. South of the town the forest heights of the Bois de Confracourt extend ( to 320 m ) and the Bois de la Chaille (306 m). In the southwest is the Bois du Moutrot, west of the Bois du Champ- Ramey (318 m) and in the north of Bois le Chanoi. To the northeast, the municipality area extends to the height of the forest Chatey, on the 332 m, the highest elevation of Combeaufontaine is achieved.

In geological terms is Combeaufontaine is in a transition area. The southern part consists of an alternation of calcareous and sandy- marly sediments of the upper Jurassic period, while come to light older layers of the middle Jurassic period in the north. The area is divided by several running in the direction north-south faults.

Neighboring communities of Combeaufontaine are Semmadon and Arbecey in the north, La Neuvelle -lès- Scey in the east, the south and Confracourt Cornot and Gourgeon in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages Combeaufontaine belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The place was the center of a dominion which was subordinate to the Prior of Moutherot and the Prior of Morey half. Together with the Franche -Comté Combeaufontaine came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. In the years 1814 and 1815 it was hit by passing troops. Today Combeaufontaine is the administrative seat of the comprehensive 10 villages municipal association Communauté de communes des Belles Fontaines.

Attractions

The village church of Combeaufontaine was newly built in 1700. It has a remarkable interior design, including furniture in the Louis XV style, paintings from the 16th and 18th centuries as well as several grave slabs. On the village square in front of the Mairie ( Municipal House ) is a covered fountain ( 1830 ).

Population

With 550 inhabitants (1 January 2011 ) Combeaufontaine belongs to the medium-sized towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century ( in 1886 676 people were still counted ), a continuous population growth has been recorded since the mid-1970s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Combeaufontaine has long been a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. The water power of the Ravin was formerly used for the operation of a mill. Today there are various operations of local small businesses, especially in the fields of precision engineering, construction, agricultural machinery and woodworking. In recent decades the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village has good transport links. It lies on the main road N19, which runs from Vesoul to Langres. Further road links exist with Gray, Scey -sur -Saône -et -Saint -Albin, Faverney and Jussey.
