Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship
The Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship is a golf tournament on the European Tour, which was held in January 2006 for the first time. It is played in the United Arab Emirates in Abu Dhabi Golf Club at the Sheraton in Abu Dhabi.
The event was created as part of the expansion of the European Tour to Asia. It is part played in the Gulf states Desert Swing, which also includes the Dubai Desert Classic (founded 1989) and the Qatar Masters (founded 1998) comprises. All three tournaments will take place sequentially in the winter time the end of January, early February and follow traditional tournaments in South Africa.
Unlike most staged in Asia European Tour events there for the tournament in Abu Dhabi no cooperation with the Asian Tour. The prize money for the first five editions amounted to two million U.S. dollars each.
