Ærø Municipality

Ærø municipality is a Danish municipality. It was created on 1 January 2006, ie a year before the great municipal reform of 2007, by combining the two municipalities Ærøskøbing and Marstal. The municipality includes the island Ærø south of Funen and several smaller islands.

Ærø municipality has a total population of 6527 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2013 ) and an area of ​​90.10 km ². It is part of Syddanmark Region. The seat of government is in Ærøskøbing.

The municipality is twinned with Elsfleth, Glücksburg and the Swedish Eksjö.
