Altomuenster is a market in the Upper Bavarian district of Dachau.

The town's name derives from the founder of the place, the holy Alto, and from the Latin word monasterium (Münster) for the monastery.

Geography

Geographical Location

The market is located northwest of Dachau and almost in the center of the city triangle Munich - Augsburg - Ingolstadt. The village lies on the county road DAH 2 By Altomuenster the Angersbach, which is called in stump stump Bach Bach and empties into the Zeitlbach flows.

History

Chronology

To 750, a traveling monk named Alto in today's local area settled and founded a small monastery.

Before 1000, the Guelph erected a Benedictine monastery. Duke Welf IV some 1056 monks to colonize the newly founded monastery of Weingarten in Altdorf (now Weingarten ), while the previously based in Altdorf nuns came to Altomuenster. They lived there until the dissolution of the monastery in 1488 by Pope Innocent VIII

Around 1310 awarded the Wittelsbach dukes residents the right of citizenship. On October 4, 1391 confirmation of market and town rights by Duke Stephan III took place. Around 1420, the Ingolstadt Dukes put on the market.

1496 gave Duke George the Rich the Birgitten Maihingen a foundation charter for Altomuenster, to found a Birgittenkloster. On March 18, 1803, the monastery was finally dissolved, but later revived. Today, it is next to an office in Bremen, the last monastery of the Order of Saint Bridget of Sweden in Germany.

From 1823 Altomuenster plummeted to market legitimate rural community. The main reason for this was the closure of the monastery, the original main employer, and administrative costs. 1862 a hospital was built, in 1869 a kindergarten. 1882 The Market Savings Bank was founded. In 1888 Altomuenster connection to the telegraph service, 1902 Following the telephone service. 1907-1910, the town was electrified. On 18 December 1913, the local railway Dachau Altomuenster was opened.

1977, a new school center was inaugurated.

Community partnership

Nagyvenyim: Since 1994, there is a community partnership with the City Nagyvenyim in Hungary. There are also friends with Vadstena (Sweden) and with Tscherms (Italy). The Swedish place Vadstena Vadstena houses the monastery. It is the mother monastery of the monastery Birgitt Altomuenster and Birgitt Order. The double monastery in Vadstena is still largely preserved and is now a museum. In Tscherms (South Tyrol ), the monastery Altomuenster had earlier vineyards and possessions and moved from there Measurement and drinking wine until the early 17th century.

Traffic

Altomuenster is the terminus of the railway line Dachau Altomuenster and is thus connected to the network of the Munich S-Bahn. Some trains run directly from Alto Munster to Munich Central Station.

In Altomuenster is a special airfield for microlight aircraft. The small airfield was created by a private initiative. The grass runway in the direction of 02 /20 is only 200 m long and of course bounded on the east by a brook and on the west by a road. In 2000 a hall to accommodate aircraft is built on the site.
