Andrew P. Harris

Andrew P. "Andy" Harris ( born January 25, 1957 in New York City ) is an American politician. Since 2011 he represents the state of Maryland in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Andrew Harris studied until 1977 at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore biology. This was followed up in 1980 to study medicine at the same university. Later, he was from 1988 to 2010 in the medical service of the United States Navy Reserve. During Operation Desert Storm in the first Gulf War, he was also a physician in active military service. Otherwise, Harris worked in various positions as a medical doctor. At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Republican Party. Between 1998 and 2010 he was a member of the Senate of Maryland. In 2008, he ran unsuccessfully for even the U.S. House of Representatives.

In the congressional elections of 2010, Harris was then in the first electoral district of Maryland in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he succeeded the Democrat Frank Kratovil took 3 January 2011, whom he had beaten in the election. In Congress, Harris is a member of the Committee on Transport and Infrastructure, the Committee on Natural Resources and the Committee on Science, Space and Technology and in five sub-committees. He is the director of the Subcommittee on Energy and Environment. In the congressional elections in 2012 Harris sat down with 67:29 percent of the vote against Democrat by Wendy Rose.
