Charles Edward Coffin

Charles Edward Coffin ( born July 18, 1841 in Boston, Massachusetts, † May 24 1912 in Muirkirk, Maryland ) was an American politician. Between 1894 and 1897 he represented the state of Maryland in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Charles Coffin attended the public schools of his home. In 1863 he came to Muirkirk in Maryland, where he led the local iron works. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Republican Party launched a political career. In 1884 he sat in the House of Representatives of Maryland; 1890-1894 he was a member of the State Senate. In June 1892 he was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in Minneapolis.

Following the resignation of Mr Barnes Compton Coffin was in the due election for the fifth seat of Maryland as his successor in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he took up his new mandate on November 6, 1894. At the same time he was also elected for the next term of office. This Coffin could remain until March 3, 1897 Congress. After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives, he was more active in working iron. He was owner of the company Muirkirk Blast Furnaces. He died on 24 May 1912 in Muirkirk.
